Call to action! This invitation is addressed to all the communities of peoples concerned by the protection of water and the climate emergency, in Canada and the USA. The 25th of July is a day to commemorate the disastrous oil spill in the Kalamazoo River of 2010, which is the most important spill on land in North America.
The pipelines and oil infrastructure that threaten our water and air are still there, in our backyards, our forests and under our rivers and lakes. So this day is also a good opportunity to remind us that the risk is still there and it's only a matter of time until the next major spill.
This is an open day of actions, so any group or anyone who wants to participate can create their own concept and materials. The important thing is to take pictures or short videos of what you do and share them with us, so that we can regroup all the actions on our social media. We can provide artwork propositions as well as locations, text and logo suggestions. But the important thing is that all actions are well rooted in your community.
Suggestions of actions:
- Banner or signs near a pipeline or other oil infrastructure
- Demonstrations in front of a oil company office
- Friendly artwork on the oil industry site
- Pictures of a natural environment threatened by nearby oil infrastructure
- Educational actions to spread the information in your neighborhood or region - Anything that can bring more light to our cause, be creative!
